Cisco sues Apple for iPhone trademark

Friday, January 12, 2007

The iPhone only made its appearance as a prototype and there have been controversies aroused.

The dispute has come up between the manufacturer of the iPhone (which was presented on Wednesday for the first time) — Apple Inc. — and a leader in network and communication systems, based in San Jose — Cisco. The company claims to possess the trademark for iPhone, and moreover, that it sells devices under the same brand through one of its divisions.

This became the reason for Cisco to file a lawsuit against Apple Inc. so that the latter would stop selling the device.

Cisco states that it has received the trademark in 2000, when the company overtook Infogear Technology Corp., which took place in 1996.

The Vice President and general counsel of the company, Mark Chandler, explained that there was no doubt about the excitement of the new device from Apple, but they should not use a trademark, which belongs to Cisco.

The iPhone developed by Cisco is a device which allows users to make phone calls over the voice over Internet protocol (VoIP).

Turkish government stops search of survivors of Aegean Sea earthquake off Izmir

Saturday, November 7, 2020

On Wednesday, the Tuskish government declared they were officially ending the search of survivors of the earthquake in the Aegean Sea. Reports said at least 116 people died due to this earthquake, while the number of casualties rose to at least 1,035 in Turkey and about 19 in Greece.

On the Greek island of Samos, two people died when a wall collapsed. The disaster caused buildings on Samos and in the west coast city of Izmir, Turkey, to collapse or be severely damaged. The earthquake also caused a “mini tsunami” to flood some streets of Samos and Izmir.

The earthquake occurred on Friday with its epicentre in the Aegean Sea near Samos. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency reported the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.6 and, as of Wednesday, 1885 aftershocks had occurred since the earthquake. The US Geological Survey reported it was of 7.0 magnitude.

Local officials said on Saturday, about 20 buildings collapsed. Early reports suggested police and people used simple tools such as chainsaws to rescue people who were trapped.

Turkey and Greece had earlier had poor relations over disputed resources in the Mediterranean, but the leaders of the two countries spoke by telephone on Friday night, and publicly expressed their willingness to help each other.

Getting Auditions Without An Agent

Getting auditions without an agent

by

Arthor Greenwald

Finding work as an extra or actor can be extremely tough if you don t know who, when and where is casting. Acquiring an agent is an ideal way to gain access to auditions and casting calls, however even this can be incredibly tough given the over populated nature of the business. Nevertheless there are ways to find out about the latest extra and television auditions, to give you a better chance of getting seen and obtaining work.

The acting industry is notoriously tough. There are so many people trying to make it in the entertainment business, with countless more graduating from drama schools every year. Extra work is a way to involve yourself in television and film projects, and get paid for your time. Agents rarely send their clients for extra work; therefore the potential to get seen is significantly higher than for TV casting calls. Plus you never know who you might meet while working as an extra.

Television casting calls are harder to crack. Often work will be passed directly to agents, who will then submit only their clients. However there are a number of open audition calls for which anyone may attend, and all you need to know is when and where they are taking place. Be aware that when you attend an open audition call there is likely to be a lot of waiting around, and you are not absolutely guaranteed to be seen.

Subscribing to an audition notice site will give you access to extra and television casting calls. Having prior knowledge to who, when and where are casting will allow you to do any appropriate research and prepare audition speeches if necessary, giving you the best possible chance of acquiring work. At Audition Now we can provide information on the latest casting calls, acting auditions and extras work.

Ukrainian tow boat ‘Chelyabinsk’ collides with bridge at Baja, Hungary

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

On Monday, Ukrainian towboat “Chelyabinsk” ((uk))Ukrainian language: ??????????? ran its barge caravan into a bridge pillar on the river Danube at Baja, Hungary. The caravan broke up, but it continued its way downstream later that day. According to multiple sources, no casualties were reported.

The caravan consisted of six grain barges pushed by Chelyabinsk, a towboat of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company. Its downstream route crossed the rail-road bridge at Baja over the Danube at about marker 1480.

The caravan moved too far left from the navigable passage and hit a pillar of the bridge around 12:54 CET (1154 UTC) while trying to turn right. Gyula Szabó, a nautical expert interviewed by TV2, attributed the event to pilot error. An eyewitness told TV2 heavy winds were a contributing factor.

The caravan broke up after the collision. Boats anchored at Baja caught the barges. A police inspection found no leaks on them and the re-assembled caravan left the scene the same day.

Talking to RTL Klub, another helmsman, Dávid Peth?, pointed out this section is hard to navigate through with this kind of setup: “[This was] a caravan of about 200 meters in length [and] 33 meters in width with a mass, together with its cargo, of about 10 thousand metric tonnes. Keeping in mind that the horizontal clearance [under] the Baja bridge averages at only 60 metres, this is very large and very bulky.” Peth? also told RTL Klub this bridge-crossing manoeuvre starts three kilometres upstream from the bridge, with no room for error.

No significant damage was reported on the bridge, and cross-river traffic did not halt. The police categorised the case as an administrative offence.

Surgeons reattach boy’s three severed limbs

Tuesday, March 29, 2005A team of Australian surgeons yesterday reattached both hands and one foot to 10-year-old Perth boy, Terry Vo, after a brick wall which collapsed during a game of basketball fell on him, severing the limbs. The wall gave way while Terry performed a slam-dunk, during a game at a friend’s birthday party.

The boy was today awake and smiling, still in some pain but in good spirits and expected to make a full recovery, according to plastic surgeon, Mr Robert Love.

“What we have is parts that are very much alive so the reattached limbs are certainly pink, well perfused and are indeed moving,” Mr Love told reporters today.

“The fact that he is moving his fingers, and of course when he wakes up he will move both fingers and toes, is not a surprise,” Mr Love had said yesterday.

“The question is more the sensory return that he will get in the hand itself and the fine movements he will have in the fingers and the toes, and that will come with time, hopefully. We will assess that over the next 18 months to two years.

“I’m sure that he’ll enjoy a game of basketball in the future.”

The weight and force of the collapse, and the sharp brick edges, resulted in the three limbs being cut through about 7cm above the wrists and ankle.

Terry’s father Tan said of his only child, the injuries were terrible, “I was scared to look at him, a horrible thing.”

The hands and foot were placed in an ice-filled Esky and rushed to hospital with the boy, where three teams of medical experts were assembled, and he was given a blood transfusion after experiencing massive blood loss. Eight hours of complex micro-surgery on Saturday night were followed by a further two hours of skin grafts yesterday.

“What he will lose because it was such a large zone of traumatised skin and muscle and so on, he will lose some of the skin so he’ll certainly require lots of further surgery regardless of whether the skin survives,” said Mr Love said today.

The boy was kept unconscious under anaesthetic between the two procedures. In an interview yesterday, Mr Love explained why:

“He could have actually been woken up the next day. Because we were intending to take him back to theatre for a second look, to look at the traumatised skin flaps, to close more of his wounds and to do split skin grafting, it was felt the best thing to do would be to keep him stable and to keep him anaesthetised.”

Professor Wayne Morrison, director of the respected Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and head of plastic and hand surgery at Melbourne’s St Vincent’s Hospital, said he believed the operation to be a world first.

Canadian PM: Liberal leadership hopefuls ‘anti-Israeli’

Saturday, October 14, 2006

Michael Ignatieff, the frontrunner in the Liberal leadership race, said that Israel committed a war crime when it bombarded the Lebanese village of Qana in July.

“This is consistent with the anti-Israeli position that has been taken with virtually all of the candidates of the Liberal leadership, and I don’t think it’s helpful or useful,” said Harper, who has refused to back down from his comment. “I think we all remember last summer when the Liberals were making all these anti-Israeli comments.”

Harper told reporters that the only two of the eight Liberal leadership candidates who had distanced themselves from such remarks at the time were Joe Volpe and Scott Brison.

Ignatieff said yesterday that “it would be up to international bodies to determine whether Israel had committed war crimes at Qana.” He also said he thought both sides in the conflict were guilty of crimes against civilians and that it was “disgraceful for Harper to suggest the Liberals were anti-Israeli”.

“Canadians deserve a Prime Minister that helps Canadians from all communities to find a common language in which we can speak about difficult issues together,” Ignatieff said. “All communities in Canada have a right to contribute to the public debate about where Canada’s national interest lies but no community has the right to determine what can and cannot be said.” “And no Prime Minister has the right to say that anyone who voices criticism of Israel is an enemy of Israel.”

Liberal MP Ariela Cotler, whose husband Irwin Cotler is supporting Bob Rae’s campaign, announced that she has quit the party over Ignatieff’s assertion that Israel committed war crimes. Ignatieff lacks “moral integrity” and accused him of “sacrificing the truth for personal political gains in the upcoming leadership election.” She said she “and many of her friends” are no longer planning to attend the Liberals’ December leadership convention in Montreal, Ariela Cotler said on Friday, in a letter to the editor in the National Post.

Ignatieff’s comment last week has also cost him the co-chair of his Toronto campaign, MP Susan Kadis, who withdrew her support from his leadership bid on Wednesday.

Canadian Jewish groups criticized the candidate for his comments. Israel’s ambassador to Canada, Alan Baker, said Thursday that Ignatieff’s statement was “upsetting and disappointing.”

Bob Rae, commenting on the PM’s remarks, said it is dangerous “to suggest there is a pro-Israel party in Canada and an anti-Israel party in Canada.”

“It’s untrue. It’s a big lie. It’s a big smear. And it isn’t going to work on me. And if he thinks he can get away with it, he’s sadly mistaken,” Mr. Rae said. “It’s just a basically thoughtless, deeply divisive thing to say, and I think it’s something we have to put a stop to right now. That’s it. We cannot carry on politics in this country like this. It will not work. It divides Canadians. It’s something for which he should be thoroughly embarrassed.”

Stéphane Dion, one of the leadership candidates, said the Prime Minister insulted everyone who wanted to see a ceasefire in the fighting between Israel and Lebanon.

“He is insulting all the people that legitimately thought that the solution was a ceasefire. And these people are not anti-Israel. The vast majority of them, they thought that the best way to help a friend was to request a ceasefire,” Mr. Dion said. “I will not allow the Prime Minister to distort what was said in so shameful a way.”

Gerard Kennedy, another leadership candidate, described Mr. Harper’s “brand of politics as creating divisions within the country and diminishing Canada’s reputation” abroad. He said it was unfair and unacceptable to brand the Liberal Party as anti-Israel, and damaging to the quality of public life in the country.

Mr. Ignatieff said his initial comments on Qana were “ripped flagrantly out of context.”

Mr. Ignatieff said he’s accepted a Jewish group’s invitation to visit the Middle East next month to discuss longterm peace solutions, and will meet with the Israeli prime minister as well as Palestinian leaders.

Dll Files Fixer Free Download For Microsoft Windows}

Submitted by: Chris Carson

A missing or broken DLL link file can give you a big headache. This is most especially if you are not very good with computers. You might be clueless on what a DLL link file is and how does it break or go missing. Basically, DLL link files are tiny files present in all the software that you have. These files aid in the execution of your programs. They also keep your computer from running low on disk space. DLL files are specifically programmed to communicate with the software in preventing program functions from duplicating, therefore saving your computer space so that your computer will still work fast.

Sometimes, out of carelessness, we tend to delete DLL files without knowing what they are for. There may be some situations when we are trying to free up some space on our computers and in turn, we accidentally delete DLL files. Usually there is a pop up box saying that the file you are about to delete can cause for your computer to malfunction, however most times these warnings are ignored. There are also instances of programs accidentally overwriting DLL files which can break them. When these kinds of things happen, you will need a dll files fixer.

You know that you already have problems with your DLL files if you try to open a couple of programs and you get a pop up window that says you are missing some files. This isnt so bad since sometimes the program will still work but with limited functionality. In some cases however, the programs will not open at all. Probably the worst that could happen is getting the blue screen of death (BSOD). This is an indicator that the DLL files that were lost or broken are crucial files to your operating system.

It can be really scary to experience the BSOD, as it usually means expensive repair costs. As of now, there are no complete lists of essential DLL files because there are a huge number of programs that are dependent on them. Likewise, taking the time to actually go through your files and folders one by one to look for these files is a very rigorous task.

Even if you are not experiencing any of the serious problems mentioned before, it still does not mean you dont need a dll files fixer download. Did you know that a slow computer can also be an indication that you are missing a couple of important DLL files?

If you want to make sure that you are not missing DLL files or if you are already missing DLL files, theres a software you can download that you can use to check. The best thing is that its a dll files fixer free of charge!

Read this short dll files fixer review and find out why this product is for you. Since its free, all you need to is press download and it will start downloading without even asking you for personal details unlike other programs. It is also a very small file, only 8 MB so it will only take up a small space of your computer. This software promises to fix all your problematic DLL files with just one-click. No need to list down the missing files, or download specific files and/or programs. It will automatically find and fix the problem for you. If you are someone who does not have the patience to go through all the files and folders in your computer, then this program is most definitely for you.

You also get other benefits when you install this program. If you notice your start up time to be slow or lagging, this program can fix that. It also provides several ways of protecting your privacy so that no viruses or other forms of malware can attack your computer and gain access to your files. It will uninstall unused software to free up space and speed up your computer. A lot of people actually forget to uninstall programs that they no longer use, and they use up a lot of valuable storage space.Another helpful thing with this software is that it cleans up all the junk in your system junk that we are either scared to delete or dont know that existed.

For something free, you get a lot with this software. Its definitely worth your time to check it out. Just a heads up, this program only works for Windows users. What are you waiting for? Start your dll files fixer download today!

Death toll from Borneo bridge collapse reaches eleven

Monday, November 28, 2011

The death toll from the weekend suspension bridge collapse on the Indonesian island of Borneo has risen from four to eleven. Search and rescue teams continue to look for bodies in the Mahakam River.

The number of wounded is currently 39 injured; reports from locals suggest 33 people remain missing at the scene in East Kalimantan’s Kutai Kartanegara district, where “Kalimantan’s Golden Gate Bridge” linked the towns of Tenggarong and the regional capital, Samarinda. A six-month-old baby is among the dead.

Cars, motorbikes, and buses all fell into the Mahakam River when the bridge came down during repairs. Another car was left overturned and balanced upon wreckage over the water. State-owned builders PT Hutama Karya completed the bridge about a decade ago in the image of California’s Golden Gate Bridge. A cable on the 720-metre structure is thought to have failed as workers dealt with it; six of the repair crew were reported missing yesterday. It had been the longest suspension bridge in Borneo.

Eyewitnesses described heavy traffic at the time of the collapse, and one survivor said he left his truck to investigate a traffic jam. Some people were left trapped by debris as the bridge came down. “It happened so fast, only about 30 seconds,” according to National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Nugoroho.

National search and rescue head Daryatmo said yesterday cranes will attempt to move debris today, with new reports saying echo-sounding equipment will be used to check it is safe to begin lifting. It is believed the bodies of more victims will be found trapped in vehicles beneath the water, which is 35-40 metres deep. Visibility is poor, and one official explained authorities are still unsure how many vehicles are on the riverbed.

“The above-water search is continuing, but underwater operations have not been carried out because we’re worried that the bridge’s pylons are unstable and could collapse any time,” said Nugoroho today. He explained that bodies had washed onto the riverbanks overnight and were recovered today.

The president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has sent three ministers to the site to investigate the accident, while Bambang Widaryatmo, head of East Kalimantan’s police, promised “parties found to be negligent will be prosecuted”. The government has promised a replacement ferry service. The river is closed to boats as rescue operations continue, and a 22-strong team has been dispatched from the national police, comprising six forensics experts, five disaster victim identification specialists, and eleven investigators. They are there to augment the East Kalimantan Police. Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih yesterday visited survivors in Parikesit Hospital and promised them medical treatment at government expense.

Some people swam ashore after falling, with the aftermath filled with screams. Survivor Syakrani, 24, yesterday asserted “The authorities should have closed the bridge if it was under repair.” His words were followed by a Jakarta Globe editorial declaring the accident “unacceptable”.

The Globe went on to comment upon suggestions corruption may have played a role; “It is too early to point fingers and look to place blame, but if shoddy materials were used in the building of the bridge, those responsible must answer to the public.” Another suggestion is coal barges striking the bridge may have weakened it. Local coal company Harum Energy lost five percent of its share value today amid fears the river blockage will hamper their ability to ship coal.

Samarinda’s seen a population and construction boom lately. A few years have seen the population triple and the construction of a large mosque, and a sports stadium; an airport and port are set to follow. However, the Corruption Eradication Commission warns 70% of the corruption it investigates concerns government contracts and up to 40% of money earmarked for infrastructure ends up stolen.

Well-chosen dinnerware can be mixed and matched with different pieces to create beautiful tablescapes. Themed Thanksgiving dinnerware sets decorated with holiday motifs can be paired with basic white chargers and simple glassware to create a festive table with a playful air.

Dress the table with a tablecloth or runner embellished with fall motifs like squash and leaves to continue the harvest theme. Make a simple basket-of-plenty centerpiece by filling a basket with pumpkins, apples, pears and other fall produce. Sheaves of grain, corn husks and seedpods can also be used for the basket-of-plenty centerpiece. Infuse the harvest theme in the Thanksgiving table settings with little touches. Roll napkins and secure them with a napkin ring; tuck a sheaf of wheat inside the napkin ring.

Thanksgiving dinnerware sets with soup tureens, salt and pepper shakers and gravy boats shaped like pumpkins and gourds are good choices for the harvest theme. Besides being festive, the holiday table should also be comfortable. Measure your table to determine whether all your guests will be seated comfortably. Allow for about two feet of space between the center of one plate and the center of the next. Add extensions or consider joining two tables to create seating space for all your guests. If you are using different dining chairs, give the table space a sense of uniformity by dressing the chairs with simple chair covers. Use a buffet or sideboard along with the dining table to create extra space for the food.

Host the Thanksgiving feast with ease with these simple ideas and tips.
