Potential Benefits Of Taking Children’s Swim Classes In Tucson Az

byAlma Abell

According to the Red Cross, the second most common cause of accidental deaths in children under the age of 14 is drowning, with about two children within this age group dying each day. Swimming lessons can help prevent this, which is the biggest reason why they’re so widely recommended. However, even children who know how to swim need to be supervised when they’re in the water, as swimming doesn’t drown-proof a child.

It’s particularly important to consider Children Swim Classes in Tucson AZ, notes the Red Cross, as once children go beyond the 3rd grade without learning to swim, they’re less likely to ever learn this important and life-saving skill. Very young children can take parent and tot classes that get them accustomed to the water while preschoolers can start independent lessons. Group lessons are a good choice for many people, as they are less expensive than private lessons and readily available in many communities.

Taking Children Swim Classes in Tucson AZ will help children get over the fear of water, so they don’t panic if they fall into the water suddenly. Lessons also teach children safety rules to follow around water and help them develop confidence in themselves as they conquer each level and learn new swimming skills and strokes.

Swimming is a great sport to get into to keep children active all year round, potentially limiting their risk for becoming overweight. Children are more likely to participate in activities that they enjoy, and once they’ve gotten over any fears, most children tend to enjoy spending time in the water, especially on hot days. Knowing how to swim makes other water activities safer that children may enjoy, including kayaking, canoeing, tubing, wakeboarding, surfing and water-skiing. Kids who don’t know how to swim may have to turn down playdates with friends during the summer that include water activities, limiting their social interactions.

This type of exercise has other health benefits as well, such as improving heart health and increasing feelings of relaxation. It’s considered a whole-body workout, but it’s lower in impact, so it’s easier on the joints than some other types of whole-body workouts like running.

Leaders of daily demonstrations against the military government of Thailand delivered a message today to the Council for National Security, calling on the junta to resign immediately and allow elections to go forward.

The protest leaders had planned a mass march of around 10,000 people yesterday from the Sanam Luang staging ground in Bangkok to army headquarters, but decided against it when heavy rains hit, reducing the demonstration’s numbers.

Cambridge, Mass., city council recommends construction firm W. R. Grace remain under DEP supervision for asbestos contamination

Sunday, April 10, 2005

Correction — May 24, 2008 This article refers to the “US Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)”, though the term “Department of Environmental Protection” actually refers to state agencies, and in this case refers to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, not a United States federal agency.

The Cambridge city council adopted a resolution on April 4 to request that the US Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) “take explicit account” of the activities of local construction firm W. R. Grace, which has previously contaminated an industrial area near the Alewife train station with asbestos. The council cited Grace’s “extraordinarily extensive and well-documented history of contaminating sites and concealing the contamination” as the reason for its request.

The resolution was a reaction to a Response Action Outcome Statement and Risk Characterization (RAO) that W. R. Grace filed with the DEP. The Cambridge Chronicle recently took the filing as evidence that “the state seems poised to stop watching over” the contaminated site.

In February, W.R. Grace was indicted by a federal grand jury for contamination as a product of vermiculite mining operations in Libby, Montana, USA. The company was also charged with “concealing information about the health affects [sic] of its asbestos mining operations.”

Small plane crashes in central Berlin

Friday, July 22, 2005

A small single-engine ultralight aircraft has crashed on a lawn between the Reichstag building, the seat of the German parliament, and the Bundeskanzleramt, the seat of the chancellor, in Berlin. The aircraft crashed at approximately 2000CET. Amateur footage aired by the ARD shows the plane rapidly descending before crashing on the lawn and bursting into flames. Witnesses at the scene were inconclusive about the heading of the plane. Some stated that it was targeting the Reichstag while others said that the pilot tried to steer away from it. He was killed in the crash. People near the scene attempted to fight the fire with hand-held extinguishers, however the aircraft was mostly destroyed by the time the emergency services arrived.

The German authorities have ruled out terrorism. Police are saying that the pilot’s wife has been missing since Monday and they had suspected that he might have something to do with the disappearance. It is possible that he might have committed suicide to avoid prosecution.

US clinic plans first face transplant

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

US doctors are to interview 12 patients with a view to performing the first ever transplant of a human face.

The Cleveland Clinic will choose between seven women and five men to find the person most suited for the experimental procedure, which is a radical and controversial solution to extreme facial scarring or disfigurement.

Having practiced the procedure on bodies donated for medical research, the Cleveland Clinic team believe they have a 50% chance of success. The procedure will not live up to science-fiction predictions and give the recipient the appearance of the donor; the underlying bone structure is the deciding factor in the final appearance. The new face will end up resembling neither the donor nor recipient.

Surgeons in several other countries have announced being ready to perform this procedure in the past. However, the risk and non life-threatening nature of disfigurement have meant that gaining approval for the groundbreaking surgery has been difficult. Like many other transplant operations, the recipient would be required to take drugs to prevent tissue rejection for the remainder of their life. These drugs can have side effects and carry their own risks involving the patient’s immune system.

British actor and comedian Sir Norman Wisdom dies aged 95

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Tributes are being paid following the announcement late last night that the veteran British actor and comedian Sir Norman Wisdom has died at the age of 95.

He passed away peacefully at the Abbot’s Wood nursing home, Ballasalla, Isle of Man yesterday evening. Following a series of strokes over the last 6 months, his health had declined severely.

Sir Norman’s career spanned almost seven decades, during which time he starred in 19 films, and 38 sitcoms, most as the inept character “Pitkin”, the persistant thorn in the side of his boss, Mr. Grimsdale. His most well known serious role came in the television play Going Gently in 1981, for ITV, in which he played a patient in hospital suffering from terminal cancer.

Following the news, the Albanian Ambassador in the UK, Zef Mazi explained that Sir Norman’s death was covered on all the news channels in Albania, where he was exceptionally popular. His material was the only Western-style comedy permitted to be shown in the Communist country. “After Charlie Chaplin, he was the biggest comedy star in Albania. I still remember his character Pitkin and his boss Mr Grimsdale,” he said. “He was very popular with everyone from very young people to very old people and he made us laugh at a time, in the communist period, when there were not many reasons to laugh.”

The Isle of Man’s Chief Minister, Tony Brown MHK, said that he was “deeply saddened” to have heard of the death. He is quoted as having said “[w]e were very fortunate indeed that Sir Norman chose to make the Isle of Man his home. He was a wonderful asset to the local community and made a tremendous contribution to countless Island charities and good causes.”

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in her conferred role as Lord of Mann on his 90th birthday in 2005, at the same time being made a Freeman of the Borough of Douglas.

The announcement of Sir Norman’s death was confirmed by his son and family in a statement last night.
